Passaro Passes Cecchinato Test, Advances At Vicenza Challenger

Francesco Passaro has booked his spot in the quarterfinals of the Internazionali Di Tennis – Citta’ Di Vicenza. The top seed of the ATP Challenger Tour 75 clay-court tournament in Italy defeated fellow Italian and wild card entry Marco Cecchinato 6-3, 6-2 on a rain-interrupted Thursday.

Passaro capitalized on four of his 11 break-point chances and won 57 per cent of the total points played to succeed in one hour and 27 minutes. Passaro, who is bidding for his third ATP Challenger career title this week on home soil, will next take on Dmitry Popko of Kazakhstan. The 27-year-old beat Italian qualifier Federico Arnaboldi 6-3, 6-1 in one hour and 24 minutes.

The remaining two second-round matches could not be finished due to bad weather and will conclude on Friday. Murkel Dellien of Bolivia is leading 6-1, 5-1 over No. 8 seed Stefano Travaglia of Italy and Chun-hsin Tseng from Chinese Taipei is leading 4-2 in the tie-break of the first set against Bolivian teenager Juan Carlos Prado.
