POZNAN, June 6, 2024

2015 Enan Poznan Open champion Pablo Carreno Busta will return to the ATP Challenger Tour event in Poland. The 32-year-old Spaniard, who is rebuilding his form after an injury, has received a wild card from the organizers and will strive to repeat his success from nine years ago.

Carreno Busta is well-known not only to the Poznan audience but also to tennis fans worldwide. The Gijon native is a former top-ten player, a two-time US Open semifinalist, a two-time Roland Garros quarterfinalist, and a bronze medalist at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where he defeated Novak Djokovic in the match for third place.

Under the guidance of Samuel Lopez, he has also won seven ATP Tour titles. His most significant and most recent victory came in 2022 at the ATP Masters 1000 in Canada. It was after this success that Carreno Busta’s health issues began. Towards the end of the season, the Spaniard started experiencing elbow problems. Initially, he did not expect that this would force him to suspend his career for several months.

Carreno Busta played his last tournament on the main tour in February 2023. In October, after rehabilitation, he attempted to compete in Spanish Challengers in Alicante and Malaga, but the injury recurred. The Iberian tennis player decided to undergo elbow surgery. After months of fighting to regain full fitness, Carreno Busta returned to the professional tour. The Spaniard used his protected ranking and competed in this year’s Roland Garros. In Paris, he lost to Mariano Navone in the first round in four sets.

Carreno Busta aims to return to his former good form and requested a wild card from the organizers of the Enea Poznan Open 2024. The decision was clear – the Spaniard received the special entry and we eagerly await Carreno Busta’s arrival in the capital of Greater Poland. This will be his third appearance here. He debuted in the Poznan Challenger in 2013, reaching the semifinals. Two years later he captured the title by defeating Moldovan Radu Albot in the final.

The Enea Poznan Open 2024 starts on June 16th.
