Coria will next play Italian qualifier Marco Cecchinato, who beat Gerard Camapana Lee of Korea 6-3, 6-2.
“It was a hard-fought match despite the score. I started a bit struggling, losing my serve against a player who had beaten me a month ago,” said Cecchinato. “But today I played at a very high level, I was solid from the baseline, so I am very happy. In each match, I set myself the goal of fighting and staying on the court from the first to the last point. At the moment, my focus is on this tournament, which is my only goal,”
Daniel Altmaier was also pushed the distance in his match against home favourite Stefano Travaglia. The fourth-seeded German will next face Italian qualifier Riccardo Bonadio, who ousted veteran Fabio Fognini 6-4, 6-3.
In the bottom half of the draw, Tristan Boyer from the United States defeated French youngster Luca van Assche 6-2, 7-5 and will play Slovakian qualifier Martin Klizan in the quarterfinals. South Tyrolean qualifier Alexander Weis continued his good run of form with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 win over Argentine Thiago Tirante. Up next for the 27-year-old Bolzano native will be Jesper de Jong of the Netherlands.
