Federico Agustin Gomez capped his dream run at the ASPRIA Tennis Cup – Trofeo BCS to capture the title of the ATP Challenger Tour 75 clay-court tournament in Milan, Italy. The 27-year-old Argentine battled his way from the qualifying to final the with wins over Italian qualifier Federico Arnaboldi, eighth-seeded Spaniard Nikolas Sanchez Izquierdo, Vilius Gaubas of Lithuania and his compatriot Samuel Vincent Ruggeri in the main draw.
Gomez beat Filip Cristian Jianu of Romania 6-3, 6-4 in Saturday’s singles final. The World No. 284 saved the only break point he faced and capitalized on three of his own 10 break-point chances to prevail after one hour and 26 minutes.

“I’d say we didn’t do a bad job,” said Gomez, who played college tennis in the United States for the Louisville Cardinals. “I certainly didn’t expect to win the tournament. Obviously, you want to do things well, but it was also the first week of working with my new coach. We decided to focus on one match at a time, improving the details game by game.”
Regarding the final, Gomez is convinced that the mental aspect was the key. “He is playing excellent tennis, and every match had its challenges. I stayed calm, knowing that if I played my game, there were good chances. I owe a lot of this calmness to Cesar; he was able to instill it in me throughout the week.”
Following two triumphs on the ITF World Tennis Tour, Gomez claimed his maiden title on the Challenger Circuit. He collected €10,200 in prize money as well as 75 ATP Ranking points.
Begemann/Eysseric triumph in doubles
In other action, Andre Begemann of Germany and Frenchman Jonathan Eysseric captured the doubles title. The No. 3 seeds outlasted the all-Czech combination of Petr Nouza and Patrik Rikl 2-6, 6-4, 10-6 in one hour and 22 minutes.
By winning their third Challenger team title, their first since 2017, Begemann and Eysseric split a prize purse of €4,250 and pocketed 75 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
