VICENZA, May 29, 2016
Guido Andreozzi is the champion of the €42,500 Citta’ di Vicenza, the lone ATP Challenger event taking place at the same time with the first week of Roland Garros.
The 24-year-old Argentine benefited from the retirement of Pere Riba in Sunday’s final, leading 6-0 after only 22 minutes. The Spaniard, who battled through the qualifying, decided to stop the match ahead of the second set due to a lower back injury.
Andreozzi captured his fourth ATP Challenger career title, the second of the season following his triumph in Santo Domingo with dropping only one set during the entire week. The world number 191 knocked out top-seed and only top 100-player in the draw Gastao Elias in the semi-finals. Andreozzi takes away €6,150 in prize money as well as 80 ATP ranking points.
