POZOBLANCO, July 12, 2024
The province of Cordoba will once again become the focus of Spanish tennis from July 14 to 21, 2024, with the 29th edition of the Open Ciudad de Pozoblanco Memorial Fabián Dorado. The ATP Challenger Tour hard-court event will be held in Pozoblanco, a town in the north-central part of the autonomous community of Andalusia.
The Pozoblanco Municipal Sports Complex will gather some of the best tennis players in the world for another year, starting this Sunday, in an international tournament that has seen past participation from world number ones, Grand Slam champions and finalists, Davis Cup winners, and top Spanish players. Previous champions include notable names such as Roberto Bautista Agut, Marcos Baghdatis, Jarkko Nieminen, Ruben Ramirez, and Stefano Pescosolido.
This legacy is the result of the efforts of many people over nearly three decades, allowing Pozoblanco to remain at the pinnacle of tennis. Tournament director Marcos Garcia highlighted during the presentation that the challenge is not “to last over time,” which has enabled Pozoblanco to host “the best hard-court tournament in Andalusia.”
Garcia emphasized the “great financial effort” and “improvement of infrastructure” necessary to continue hosting one of the most important international events in Andalusia. Pozoblanco Mayor Santiago Cabello also stressed the “great economic impact” this event has “on Pozoblanco and the Valle de Los Pedroches.”
Pozoblanco puts Cordoba on the international map
“You put Córdoba on the international map,” acknowledged Deputy of Sports Antonio Martin Romero, who noted that the Open Ciudad de Pozoblanco is “a showcase” for the entire province. Antonio Rabasco, Vice President of the RFAT, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the difficulty of organizing such an event annually: “This tournament is a luxury, and you can’t imagine its importance.”

A high-caliber field of players
This year’s edition of the tournament will feature players from over 20 countries, including previous champions, ATP Tour finalists, last year’s Junior World No. 1, and a strong representation of Spanish players, many with promising futures.
All these players will aim to emulate the Frenchmen Hugo Grenier and Constant Lestienne, winners of the last two editions of the Open Pozoblanco, who have risen to the top 100 in the world rankings over the past two years.
