Damas Advances To First Challenger Quarterfinal In Pozoblanco

Miguel Damas has become the first Spaniard to secure a spot in the quarterfinals of the 29th edition of the Open Ciudad de Pozoblanco Memorial Fabián Dorado, an ATP Challenger Tour hard-court tournament taking place until July 21 in the Valle de Los Pedroches.

The 24-year-old from Madrid defeated Frenchman Arthur Reymond 6-4, 6-4 on Wednesday. Damas withstood six aces, saved all four break points he faced and broke his opponent’s serve two times to succeed in one hour and 33 minutes.

The World No. 388, a winner of three ITF World Tennis Tour titles, will appear in the stage of the last eight at a Challenger event for the first time, taking on No. 2 seed Egor Gerasimov. The 31-year-old from Belarus rallied from a set down to overcome Bulgarian qualifier Alexander Donski 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 58 minutes.

In other action, Dan Added of France eased past Italian qualifier Fabrizio Andaloro 6-3, 6-1. The 25-year-old Strasbourg native struck five aces and won 84 per cent of his first-service points to advance in one hour and 10 minutes. Up next for Added will be No. 3 seed August Holmgren. The 320th-ranked Danish beat Briton Stuart Parker 6-1, 6-3 in 70 minutes.
