August Holmgren has clinched his maiden title on the ATP Challenger Tour. The 26-year-old from Denmark won the 29th edition of the Open Ciudad de Pozoblanco Memorial Fabián Dorado.

The No. 3 seed of the €36,900 hard-court tournament defeated top seed Antoine Escoffier of France 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the singles final on Sunday evening. Holmgren overcame a slow start, struck nine aces and won 68 per cent of his first-service points. The World No. 245 broke his rival’s serve three times to seal victory in two hours and eight minutes.

Following four title wins on the ITF World Tennis Tour, Holmgren has become the first player from Denmark to clinch a Challenger trophy since Holger Rune in Sanremo, Italy 2022. The Espergaerde native collected €3,050 in prize money as well as 50 ATP Ranking points.

The Open Ciudad de Pozoblanco was held in Pozoblanco, a charming town located in the province of Córdoba, Spain. Nestled in the heart of the Pedroches Valley, it is renowned for its rich agricultural heritage and scenic landscapes. The town is famous for its production of high-quality Iberian ham, benefiting from the extensive oak forests that provide an ideal habitat for raising Iberian pigs. With its blend of tradition and vibrant community life, Pozoblanco offers a unique glimpse into the rural charm and cultural richness of Andalusia.
