For the second consecutive year, Chinese teenager Juncheng Shang has eliminated home favorite and top seed Ben Shelton from the Atlanta Open. The 19-year-old secured a 7-6(6), 6-4 victory on Thursday night, defeating the World No. 14 for the biggest win of his career.
Shang withstood 13 aces and capitalized on two of his four break-point chances to advance to his third career quarterfinal on the ATP Tour after one hour and 38 minutes.

“It was a really tough match,” Shang said after improving to 3-0 in his head-to-head record against Shelton. “The conditions are completely different from last year. The courts are much slower. But with this crowd, I really enjoy playing here. I don’t know what I did to play so well against Ben but he’s such an amazing guy, a lot of respect to him.”
The World No. 89 will next take on eighth-seeded Australian Max Purcell, who was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over David Goffin from Belgium. The encounter lasted one hour and one minute.
