Collarini Clinches Cordenons Quarterfinals Spot

Andrea Collarini headlines Wednesday’s second-round action at the Serena Wines 1881 – Acqua Maniva Tennis Cup in Cordenons, Italy by knocking out the tournament’s top seed Albert Ramos-Vinolas from Spain 7-6(5), 6-1.

In the pair’s first meeting, Collarini converted six of his 11 break-point chances and won 57 per cent of the total points played to prevail after two hours and two minutes. The 32-year-old Argentine will next face Czech youngster Andrew Paulson, who was a 3-6, 6-0, 6-4 winner over Ergi Kirkin of Turkey.

In the bottom half of the draw, Belgian teenager Alexander Blockx beat Romania’s Cezar Cretu 6-4, 6-4. The 19-year-old former Australian Open Junior champion advanced in one hour and 53 minutes to take on the winner of the all-Italian encounter between Federico Arnaboldi and Alessandro Pecci in the quarterfinals of the ATP Challenger Tour 75 clay-court event.
