TULLN/STARNBERG, September 4, 2024
Lukas Neumayer is the last home favourite left in the singles draw of the NÖ Open powered by EVN in Tulln, Austria. The 21-year-old Salzburg native knocked off sixth-seeded Briton Oliver Crawford 6-4, 6-0 on Wednesday to book his spot in the quarterfinals of the ATP Challenger Tour 100 clay-court event.
Neumayer sent down four aces and won 73 per cent of his first-service points to advance in one hour and 13 minutes.
“I largely succeeded in sticking to my game plan and staying aggressive and active in almost every rally. My performance was good, which is sometimes even more important to me than the actual result,” said Neumayer.
The World No. 320 will next take on No. 2 seed Jerome Kym of Switzerland, who fought past Martin Krumich of the Czech Republic 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 in one hour and 50 minutes.
Also in the bottom half of the draw, Rudolf Molleker from Germany defeated Frenchman Valentin Royer 7-5, 6-4 in 90 minutes to face Czech youngster Andrew Paulson in the stage of the final eight. The 22-year-old beat Ukrainian qualifier Vitaliy Sachko 6-1, 7-5 in one hour and 22 minutes.
