BREST, October 5, 2024
The Brest Open Groupe Vert is fast approaching! From October 21 to 27, the 9th edition of ATP Challenger Tour 100 tournament will take place at the Brest Arena. The player list was revealed on Wednesday, promising an exceptional sports lineup for tennis enthusiasts.
A French Top 100 player…
Hugo Gaston, currently ranked World No. 77, gained widespread recognition during Roland-Garros 2020 and will return to the Center Court at the Brest Arena this year. In the 2023 edition, Gaston made an impressive run to the semifinals, where he was narrowly defeated by Benjamin Bonzi in a fiercely contested three-set match. For this new participation, Gaston aims to deliver his best performance yet at the Brest Open Groupe Vert.
…and four international Top 100 players in Brest
This year, the Brest Open Groupe Vert will welcome four international players ranked among the top 100 in the world. One of the main contenders will be Croatian Borna Coric, who was ranked 12th in the world in 2018 and won the Cincinnati Masters 1000 in 2022, as well as a title in Halle in 2018, where he defeated Roger Federer in the final. Italian Luca Nardi, currently ranked World No. 88, will also be part of the line-up. Nardi made headlines in 2024 with a victory over tennis legend Novak Djokovic at Indian Wells. At just 21 years old, he is showing constant improvement. Australian Max Purcell, who won the doubles titles at Wimbledon in 2022 and the US Open just a few weeks ago, continues to rise in the singles rankings with solid performances. Lastly, Bosnian Damir Dzumhur, a former top-30 player, is regaining form after his victory in the final of the 2024 Barletta Challenger against Harold Mayot.
Strong French contingent
In addition to Gaston, Lucas Pouille will also take to the courts. Pouille, one of the best French players of the past decade, boasts a Davis Cup victory, a Grand Slam semifinal appearance, and a career-high ranking of 10th in the world. Other notable French players include Benjamin Bonzi (2023 Brest Open finalist), Gregoire Barrere (2022 Brest Open champion), Constant Lestienne and Harold Mayot (both semifinalists at the 2024 Open Blot Rennes). Joining them will be Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Luca Van Assche, making for a strong French presence in this edition of the tournament.
