MONTEVIDEO/STARNBERG, November 18, 2024
Tristan Boyer emerged victorious at the 20th edition of the Uruguay Open, defeating Bolivian Hugo Dellien 6-2, 6-4 in an 82-minute final played under windy conditions at the Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club on Sunday. The Californian, coached by Uruguayan Marcelo Filippini, showcased dominant clay-court play against Dellien, the 2021 tournament champion and 2014 runner-up.
The path to the title was formidable for Boyer, as he overcame seeded players including Juan Manuel Cerundolo, Gastao Elias, Thiago Monteiro, Camilo Ugo Carabelli, and finally Dellien.

“I felt very comfortable in the tournament, even though people often think that American tennis players aren’t very good on clay,” Boyer said in fluent Spanish.
This marks the US-American’s third ATP Challenger Tour title of the year, following victories in Yucatan and Campinas. His win strengthens his bid for direct entry into the Australian Open.
“Marcelo Filippini knows a lot about tennis and has helped me improve my game. Even though we’ve only been working together for a short time, he has been very important to me in these final months of the year,” Boyer added.
“This has been a very good season for me, and ending it in a place where I feel so comfortable is very rewarding,” said Dellien.
“The weather conditions weren’t very favorable in the final, but I am still very satisfied with the way I competed in my last tournament of the year.”
With Boyer’s victory, the Uruguay Open continues its legacy of winners from eight different nations, further cementing its international reputation.
Andreozzi/Luz triumph in doubles
Argentine Guido Andreozzi and Brazilian Orlando Luz, the top seeds, claimed the doubles title at the Uruguay Open with a 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 victory over Uruguay’s Franco Roncadelli and Argentina’s Mariano Kestelboim on Saturday.
Andreozzi celebrated his third doubles title at the Montevideo tournament, adding to his victories in 2018 and 2022, both achieved with Guillermo Duran as his partner. For Luz, the win was particularly sweet after finishing as a runner-up in 2019 alongside fellow Brazilian Rafael Matos.
