Comesana To Face Tirante In All-Argentine Final In Sao Paulo

Argentines Francisco Comesana and Thiago Tirante will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the Torneio Internactional Masculino de Tenis Ano 7 – Engie Open in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Comesana fought past Matias Soto of Chile 6-2, 6-7(7), 7-6(1). The No. 3 seed of the ATP Challenger Tour 75 hard-court event fired 23 aces and won 80 per cent of his first-service points to seal victory in two hours and 39 minutes.

Fifth favourite Tirante defeated No. 7 seed Tomas Barrios Vera of Chile 7-6(4), 7-5. The 23-year-old La Plata native converted six of his 12 break-point chances to advance in one hour and 59 minutes.

The 24-year-old Comesana is vying for his third ATP Challenger Tour title of the season following his triumphs in Oeiras, Portugal and on home soil in Buenos Aires. Tirante could lift his second trophy this year after winning the Mexico City Open. The pair’s head-to-head record is tied at 2-2.

Gomez/Martinez triumph in doubles

In other action, Federico Agustin Gomez of Argentina and Luis David Martinez from Venezuela claimed the doubles crown. They beat second-seeded US-Americans Christian Harrison and Evan King 7-6(4), 7-5 in one hour and 25 minutes.

Gomez and Martinez split $4,665 in prize money and earned 75 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
