Mats Rosenkranz has reached his first career final on the ATP Challenger Tour at the inaugural Manzanillo Open in Colima, Mexico. The 26-year-old lefty from Germany defeated No. 5 seed Liam Draxl of Canada 6-3, 7-6(4) in Saturday’s stage of the last four.
World No. 482 Rosenkranz fired 12 aces and won 87 per cent of his first-service points. He saved all three break points he faced and capitalized on two of his own four break-point opportunities to succeed in one hour and 38 minutes.
In the second semi-final Gonzalo Oliveira edged past No. 6 seed Aidan Mayo from the United States 7-6(3), 7-5. The third-seeded Venezuelan won 54 per cent of the total points played to secure victory in two hours and three minutes.

Rosenkranz, a winner of six titles on the ITF World Tennis Tour, could lift his maiden Challenger trophy. Oliveira, 29, is seeking his second triumph on the Challenger Circuit following his title win in Brazzaville, Congo in early November. The pair will meet for the first time.
Canadians earn doubles crown
In other action, Draxl and Cleeve Harper captured the doubles title. The top-seeded Canadians outlasted No. 2 seeds Rinn Reynolds from New Zealand and Canadian Benjamin Sigouin 6-7(4), 7-5, 12-10 in one hour and 48 minutes.
Draxl and Harper split $2,140 in prize money and earned 50 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
