ITF Press Release, December 2, 2024

Italy will host the Davis Cup Final 8 from 2025 to 2027, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) has announced.

The Final 8 event is the pinnacle of the annual Davis Cup team competition, the men’s World Cup of Tennis. 157 nations competed across all levels of the competition in 2024, with the world’s top eight teams vying for the title of World Champions in a Final 8 which saw Italy victorious for their second consecutive year.

The last three editions of the prestigious six-day finale have been successfully hosted by the Region of Andalusia in the City of Malaga, Spain, drawing 65,000 spectators this year – 43% of whom travelled from overseas to support their team. The 2025 Final 8 will be staged in Bologna, Italy.

David Haggerty, ITF President, added: “We are delighted to partner with the FITP for the Davis Cup Final 8. Italy has a rich history in tennis and a proven ability to host world-class sporting events.

“We would like to thank Malaga and Andalusia, as well as Tennium and ITF member nation the Real Federación Española de Tenis (RFET) for being such great partners in helping us to elevate the event to new heights these past three years. We are confident that over the next three years working with the FITP we can take the Davis Cup even higher, providing an unforgettable experience for players and fans alike.”

Angelo Binaghi, President of the Italian Tennis Federation (FITP), expressed his excitement and pride in hosting the Davis Cup Final 8. He highlighted not only the recent victories of the Italian Davis Cup team but also the FITP’s impressive track record in organising world-class tennis tournaments.

Binaghi stated: “We are thrilled to have been selected as hosts and look forward to welcoming the best teams in the world to our country next November and for the next three years. Italy first competed in the Davis Cup nearly 100 years ago and is proud to have lifted the iconic Davis Cup trophy three times as World Champions. The FITP will build on Italy’s heritage in this competition, working closely with the ITF to deliver a spectacular event for the fans, as well as build an even greater future for tennis’ great global team asset.”

Italy first competed in the Davis Cup in 1922 and has won the title three times (1976, 2023 and 2024), finishing as runners-up six times (1960, 1961, 1977, 1979, 1980, 1998). Nicola Pietrangeli, one of Italy’s most decorated players, holds the record for most overall Davis Cup wins, most singles wins, most doubles wins, most ties and years played.
