The Credit One Charleston Open, North America’s largest women’s-only professional tennis tournament and the WTA Tour’s annual kick-off to the spring clay-court season, has been named WTA 500 Tournament of the Year for the third consecutive year.

The announcement, made by the Hologic WTA Tour on Friday, is voted on by the players, who honor a tournament based on the excellence of its staff and organization, its passionate fans, and its broader commitment to the sport of tennis and its athletes.

The Credit One Charleston Open was selected from among 18 WTA 500 tournaments held worldwide across Australia, Europe, China and other international locations.

“I’m incredibly proud of the team for earning the distinction of Tournament of the Year three years in a row for the Credit One Charleston Open,” Bob Moran, President of Beemok Sports & Entertainment and the Charleston Open tournament director, said in a statement. “It’s not just about putting on a great tennis tournament – it’s about creating an unforgettable experience for the players, fans and the entire community. I couldn’t be more grateful for the Navarro family’s commitment to excellence, and I’m deeply honored to see our efforts recognized on this global stage.”

Portia Archer, CEO of the WTA Tour, in a statement added: “The Credit One Charleston Open should be exceptionally proud of staging an event that continually goes above and beyond to create an atmosphere and environment where players feel comfortable and able to perform at their best. They have earned a well-deserved reputation and set an aspiration standard.”

The Credit One Charleston Open, which has already received early commitments from former tournament champions Madison Keys and Belinda Bencic as well as from World No. 7 and US Open finalist Jessica Pegula, World No. 8 and US Open semifinalist Emma Navarro, and World No. 12 and Mubadala Citi DC Open champion Paula Badosa, returns for its 53rd edition from March 29 to April 6, 2025. It also marks the 25th year of the event in Charleston, after moving from Hilton Head Island in 2001.

The tournament is held annually on Daniel Island in Charleston at renovated and modern Credit One Stadium. Excitement for the 2025 event will extend far beyond the tennis courts, as the tournament is planning to introduce many new experiences for fans. Attendees can enjoy expanded on-site entertainment, interactive activations and upgraded dining and beverage options. The event will offer pickleball and panel experiences, allowing fans to try these fast-growing sports in a fun, social environment.

A tennis-focused Fan Zone will be back, presented in partnership with USTA South Carolina, where fans can participate in hands-on tennis activities and games designed to test their skills and inspire the next generation of players. At “COCO Row,” fans can explore a curated selection of Lowcountry restaurants, providing a tase of the city’s renowned culinary scene.

The nine-day Credit One Charleston Open will showcase a singles draw of 48 players, a qualifying draw of 24 players, and a doubles draw of 16 players. The event traditionally draws more than 90,000 fans to Daniel Island. Tickets are currently on sale at creditonecharlestonopen.com.
