MOGI DAS CRUZES/STARNBERG, December 15, 2024
Brazilian Ana Candiotto clinched her first career singles title on Sunday in Mogi das Cruzes, defeating Ecuador’s Camila Romero 6-0, 6-3 in the final of the Sao Paulo Tennis Classic – Ano III ITF World Tennis Tour W15 clay-court event. The match lasted one hour and 27 minutes.
Candiotto dominated from the start, breaking Romero’s serve in the opening game and closing the first set 6-0 in just 24 minutes. She maintained her intensity into the second set, taking an early 2-0 lead. Although Romero leveled the score at 2-2, Candiotto remained composed and decisive, ultimately sealing the victory.
“I’m very happy and grateful for this title, especially since it’s here in Brazil, where I could play in front of my family. It’s been a turbulent year with changes, but ending it with this win is so rewarding,” Candiotto said.
The 20-year-old highlighted the importance of the crowd’s energy, especially during challenging moments in the second set. “Their support lifted me when my energy dipped. When closing the match, a mix of emotions passed through my mind, but I stayed focused and got the win.”
This triumph is a major milestone for Candiotto’s career. “Winning a title was a goal for this semester, and this motivates me even more for the next year,” she said, adding optimism for 2025.
Candiotto earned 15 WTA Ranking points and $2,352 in prize money, while runner-up Romero gained 10 points and $1,470.
