PRAGUE, June 8, 2016

The quarterfinals are set at the €42,500 Sparta Prague Open with the tournament’s favourites making their way to the stage of the final eight.

Top-seed Lukas Rosol dismissed defending champion Norbert Gombos 6-3, 6-4. The world number 71 and Prague resident saved the only break point he faced, capitalizing on two of his own to seal victory in 63 minutes.

Rosol set a second round clash with sixth seed Adam Pavlasek, who eased past Hans Podlipnik Castillo 6-0, 6-3. The 21-year-old Czech saved the only break point he faced, coverting four os his own to advance in only 58 minutes.

Second favourite Rogerio Dutra Silva benefited from the retirement of Edoardo Eremin, leading 6-4, 2-1 due to illness. The Brazilian will take on Dennis Novak, who emerged victorious from the all-Austrian-encounter with Gerald Melzer, winning 6-4, 6-2.

The tournament’s number four Jozef Kovalik beat Nils Langer, winning 6-2, 6-4. The world number 134 from Slovakia won 75% of his first service points and capitalized on four of his five break point chances to prevail in one hour and 13 minutes. Kovalik will face Cedric-Marcel Stebe, who rallied back against Uladzimir Ignatik 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 in two hours and 32 minutes. The 25-year-old German has reached his first quarterfinal on Challenger level since Kenitra in October 2013.
