DALLAS, January 8, 2025 (Press Release)
The Dallas Open announced the player field for this year’s ATP tournament. Now in its fourth year, its first since upgrading to an ATP 500 event, the 2025 Dallas Open is scheduled to be played February 1-9 at Ford Center at The Star in Frisco.
This year’s main draw has 12 players ranked in the top 50 and representation from 13 countries. The four highest-ranked Americans in the world, including No. 4 Taylor Fritz, headline this year’s field. Defending Dallas Open champion Tommy Paul (currently ranked No. 12), Frances Tiafoe (No. 18), and Ben Shelton (No. 21) will play in the 2025 Dallas Open. Additionally, Norwegian Casper Ruud (No. 6) will make his Dallas Open debut.
“We’re incredibly excited to welcome such a talented group of athletes to the 2025 Dallas Open main draw,” Dallas Open Tournament Director Peter Lebedevs said. “With five players inside the top 25, and a dozen in the top 50, this year’s tournament features its strongest field yet. It’s thrilling to see the continued growth of the Dallas Open, and I’m confident that fans in North Texas are in for a memorable week of high-level tennis.”
Fritz, a 2023 Dallas Open semifinalist and 2022 Dallas Open quarterfinalist, is the top-ranked American man in the world. Currently ranked No. 4 in the PIF ATP Tour Rankings, Fritz won two of his eight career ATP Tour titles in 2024 (Eastbourne, Delray Beach). The 27-year old was the 2024 U.S. Open runner-up and a quarterfinalist at both the 2024 Australian Open and Wimbledon Championships. He also won a 2024 Olympic bronze medal in doubles with partner Tommy Paul.
Ruud, who reached the Round of 16 at this year’s U.S. Open, is a 12-time winner on the ATP Tour, including two titles in 2024 (Geneva, Barcelona). The 25-year old Ruud finished as the runner-up at the 2022 and 2023 French Open and the 2022 U.S. Open. He was previously ranked as high as No. 2 in the world (September 2022), securing his place as the highest-ranked Norwegian in history.
Two former Dallas Open champions will be in the field this year – Tommy Paul and Reilly Opelka. Paul, the defending champion, saw his Dallas Open debut (and victory) launch the most successful season of his career. Including his win in Dallas, Paul won three of his four career titles in 2024 while also reaching an additional final. He was a 2024 Olympic bronze medalist in doubles alongside Fritz. Opelka won the inaugural Dallas Open in 2022. After battling injuries, Opelka recently reached his first ATP Tour final (Brisbane) since 2022.
Tiafoe, a two-time Dallas Open quarterfinalist, is currently No. 17 in the world, the third-highest ranked American. Tiafoe reached his second career Grand Slam semifinal at this year’s U.S. Open, falling in five sets to Fritz. Ben Shelton (No. 21) is set to return to the Dallas Open after reaching the semifinals in 2024. Shelton, a 2023 U.S. Open semifinalist, lost to eventual champion Tommy Paul in Dallas last year.
SMU sophomore Trevor Svajda has accepted a Dallas Open wild card invitation. The 2024 AAC Freshman of the Year defeated five ranked opponents in his first season of college tennis. Svajda made his ATP Tour debut at last year’s Dallas Open, falling in the first qualifying round. Also receiving a wild card invitation is former world No. 4 Kei Nishikori, a 12-time ATP Tour winner and nine-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist.
Other top-50 players in the Dallas Open field include Tomas Machac, Brandon Nakashima, Matteo Arnaldi, Alex Michelsen, Marcos Giron, and former TCU tennis player Cameron Norrie.
