HAMBURG/STARNBERG, January 11, 2025
Davis Cup captain Michael Kohlmann has named Jan-Lennard Struff, Yannick Hanfmann, Kevin Krawietz, and Tim Puetz to represent Germany against Israel in the first round of the 2025 Davis Cup Qualifiers. The tie, scheduled for February 1-2, will take place on hard courts in Vilnius, Lithuania, rather than Israel due to the tense political situation in the region.
The fifth spot on the team will be decided at a later date. Alexander Zverev is unlikely to participate, as his February schedule focuses on clay-court tournaments in South America. Kohlmann is relying on the core group of players that helped Germany reach the Davis Cup semifinals in Malaga last year, marking their first semifinal appearance since 2021.
Captain Kohlmann’s Strategy
“It’s a testament to our strength that we’ve been able to rely on a core group of experienced players for years. They consistently deliver their best performances in the jersey of Team Germany. With this team, we had a strong Davis Cup season last year, and we aim to build on that success against Israel,” Kohlmann explained.
Jan-Lennard Struff, selected for his 16th Davis Cup nomination, remains a key player. “I’m glad that Jan-Lennard is available to us again this year. We need his exceptional qualities to replicate last year’s success,” Kohlmann said.
Yannick Hanfmann, chosen as the second singles player, played a crucial role in Germany’s success last year with two victories during the group stage. “Yannick is the kind of player every coach wants on their team. He’s always ready when we need him, a true team player who brings professionalism and valuable skills to our lineup,” added Kohlmann.
Germany vs. Israel: A Brief History
Germany and Israel have faced off three times in Davis Cup history, with Germany leading the series 3-0. Their last encounter was in 2004 in Aachen-Ahlsdorf, where Germany secured a dominant 5-0 victory. Currently, Germany ranks fifth in the Davis Cup nations ranking, while Israel holds the 28th position.
The winner of Israel Vs Germany will face the winner of the tie between Japan and Great Britain.
