Madison Keys from the United States won the WTA 500 Adelaide International by beating top seed and countrywoman Jessica Pegula in three sets.

Keys won 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 at The Drive to win her second Adelaide title and her ninth career WTA Tour singles title. The World No. 20 capitalized on six of her 13 break-point opportunities to succeed in one hour and 43 minutes.

“I am happy with the win today. I think I played well in the first set and the third set, and that’s kind of really all that it needed to be,” said Keys.

“I think it’s one of those matches where you must try to take the initiative as soon as you get it because the longer the point goes, and the more corner to corner that you start getting, that’s when Jess becomes her best.”

“I think when I’m playing good tennis a lot of really good things can happen, and it’s just putting myself out there and continuing to give myself the opportunity to play good tennis, and a lot of times good things follow.”

The women’s doubles title was taken out by Hanya Guo of China and Alexandra Panova from Russia and defeating Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia and Laura Siegemund from Germany in Friday’s final, 7-5, 6-4 after one hour and 44 minutes.

Alicia Molik satisfied with the event

In her second year as Tournament Director, Alicia Molik has been thrilled with the support the event has received not only from the fans through the gates but the players and their teams.

“I have said it once and I will say it again, the fans have spoken; they love tennis and the experience at The Drive. There is a huge appetite for world class tennis in this state and long may it continue,” said Molik.

“The players love competing here in Adelaide, the environment space and ease of the Adelaide International continue to be the common thread when they share their feedback.”
