Adam Pavlasek upset top seed Lukas Rosol in the quarterfinals of the €42,500 Sparta Prague Open on Thursday. In the third meeting between the two Czechs, the 21-year-old from Bilovec fired seven aces and capitalized on two of his seven break point chances, winning 6-4, 7-6 in one hour and 32 minutes.
Pavlasek will take on Jozef Kovalik next. The fourth seed from Slovakia benefited from the retirement of Cedric-Marcel Steebe due to injury, leading 6-2, 2-0 after 43 minutes.
The tournament’s second favourite also fall in the stage of the last eight, as Rogerio Dutra Silva lost to Dennis Novak 6-4, 1-6, 6-7. The 22-year-old Austrian broke the Brazilian’s service four times to advance after two hours and 20 minutes.
Novak will next play third seed Stephane Robert, who eased past Jurgen Zopp, winning 6-2, 6-3 in exactly one hour of play.
