Juan Pablo Varillas captured the title of the AAT Challenger Santander Buenos Aires. The No. 4 seed from Peru defeated seventh-seeded Paraguayan Adolfo Daniel Vallejo 6-4, 6-4 in Monday’s singles final, which was postponed due to persistent rain on Sunday.
Varillas advanced to the championship match in Argentina’s capital city with wins in the bottom half of the draw over Juan Carlos Prados of Bolivia, home favourite Nicolas Kicker, fifth-seeded US-American Emilio Nava and his compatriot Gonzalo Bueno.
Varillas capitalized on four of his 11 break-point opportunities in the final and won 55 per cent of the total points played to secure victory in one hour and 47 minutes.

“I am very happy to start the season like this. I was able to rais my level throughout the matches,” said Varillas after his triumph.
By lifting his seventh career trophy on the ATP Challenger Tour, Varillas earned $8,350 in prize money as well as 50 ATP Ranking points.
The AAT Challenger Santander Buenos offered a total prize pool of $60,000 and was held at the Club Nautico Hacoaj in Tigre. The city is situated in the north of Greater Buenos Aires, 28 km (17 mi) north of Buenos Aires city.
