KOBLENZ/STARNBERG, January 26, 2025
The draw for the seventh edition of the Koblenz Open, running from January 26 to February 2 at the Koblenz EPG Arena, has been revealed. At least seven German players will compete for the title in the first German ATP Challenger Tour event of the season.
Top seed Henri Squire faces a challenging first-round match against Belgium’s Gauthier Onclin (ATP 194), who triumphed at two consecutive ITF World Tennis Tour events last November. Rudolf Molleker, meanwhile, has an even tougher task ahead, as he takes on the second seed, Gijs Brouwer (ATP 189) of the Netherlands. Last year, Molleker reached the quarterfinals before falling to eventual champion Jurij Rodionov.
German rising stars Justin Engel and Diego Dedura-Palomero await qualifiers as their first-round opponents, while Max Schönhaus, another German wild card entrant, will face Russia’s Ivan Gakhov (ATP 309). Daniel Masur is set to play Italy’s Samuel Vincent Ruggeri (ATP 275), and Max Rehberg will take on Ukraine’s Oleg Prihodko (ATP 344).
German Doubles Teams Set to Collide
The doubles draw has also been finalized. Top seeds Reese Stadler of the United States and Briton Marcus Willis, best known for their memorable run at Wimbledon 2016, will begin their campaign against Alexandru Jecan from Romani and Ivan Liutarevich from Belarus . German wild card duo Tim Rühl and Patrick Zahraj will face Italy’s Samuel Vincent Ruggeri and Augusto Virgili in the first round.
Meanwhile, Max Schönhaus and Daniel Masur will team up to take on the fourth-seeded duo Patrik Thrac of the United States and Szymon Walkow from Poland. Schönhaus enters the tournament as a recent Wimbledon Junior Doubles Champion. Should Rühl and Zahraj win their opener, they could face Schönhaus and Masur in an all-German second-round clash.
The final German participant in the doubles field, Christoph Negritu, will team up with Spain’s David Vega Hernandez. They are set to face Frenchman Geoffrey Blancaneaux and Joshua Paris of Great Britain in their opening match.
