PRAGUE, June 10, 2016
Stephane Robert and Adam Pavlasek will compete in Saturday’s final of the €42,500 Sparta Prague Open.
The 36-year-old Frenchman defeated Dennis Novak 6-1, 7-6, hitting eight aces. Robert converted three of his five break point chances to prevail in 61 minutes.
Pavlasek, who knocked out the tournament’s top-seed Lukas Rosol on Thursday, advanced with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory over fourth favourite Jozef Kovalik. Pavlasek sent down seven aces, winning 75% of his first service points to finish the encounter after one hour and 50 minutes.
Robert and Pavlasek will square off for the first time. The sixth seed from the Czech Republic eyes on winning his second ATP Challenger crown after he lifted the trophy in Poprad Tatry last year. Robert could win his eighth Challenger career title, his second of the season after New Delhi in February.
Later in the afternoon, Tomasz Bednarek and Nikola Mektic captured the doubles title, winning 6-4, 5-7, 10-7 over Zdenek Kolar and Matej Vocel in one hour and 28 minutes.
