USTA Press Release, February 1, 2025
Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram improved their Davis Cup doubles record to 7-2 together and clinched the U.S. Davis Cup team’s berth into the second round of 2025 Qualifying, as the US-Americans advanced past Chinese Taipei in Tapei City with a 4-0 tie victory this weekend in the Qualifying First Round.
The former world doubles No. 1s defeated Ray Ho and Tung-Lin Wu, 6-4, 7-6(4), on Saturday to clinch the best-of-five matchup before Mackenzie McDonald added a 6-2, 6-3 win over Tsung-Hao Huang in a dead singles match.
“It was tough the whole match,” said Krajicek. “I thought those guys played really well. We played a great game in the first set to get a break and thought we took care of our serve really well. And then in the second, it was just a classic doubles match, comes down to one or two points, and thought Rajeev hit a great return – we had a hustle point to get up a mini-break in the tiebreaker – and that’s one point that made the difference there. Could have gone either way, but I thought we played really well at the end and fortunately came through.”
Ram added: “Basically I thought both teams competed really hard and I thought we maybe had a little more experience at the end. We play together all the time and we’ve played a lot of these matches, and stuff like that can sometimes make the difference.”
