ROSARIO/STARNBERG, February 6, 2025
The YPF Rosario Challenger, Argentina’s most prestigious event on the ATP Challenger Tour, delivered one of its most anticipated clashes as Camilo Ugo Carabelli triumphed over Diego Schwartzman in a hard-fought 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory after two hours and 17 minutes of play.
The match held special significance as former World No. 8 Schwartzman is nearing the end of his professional career. The packed crowd at the Jockey Club de Rosario erupted in support of the Argentine veteran throughout the contest.
Ugo Carabelli started strongly, immediately breaking Schwartzman’s serve and taking a 2-0 lead. However, the experienced “Peque” fought back, breaking twice to claim the first set 6-4, thrilling the home fans who had gathered to watch one of his final professional matches.
The second set saw Ugo Carabelli raise his level, securing breaks in the fourth and sixth games to establish a 5-1 lead. Though Schwartzman managed to recover one of the breaks, it wasn’t enough, as Carabelli closed the set 6-3.
The decisive third set began with three consecutive breaks of serve, but Ugo Carabelli capitalized on his advantage to go up 2-1 with his own serve. The 25-year-old maintained his lead and eventually sealed the victory 6-4.
