DALLAS/STARNBERG, February 8, 2025

For the third consecutive match in his Dallas Open title defense, Tommy Paul eliminated a fellow US-American to advance at the newly elevated ATP Tour 500 event. Following hard-fought three-set victories over Jenson Brooksby and Ethan Quinn in the early rounds, the third seed secured a 7-6(3), 6-2 quarterfinal win against his close friend Reilly Opelka on Friday.

“Getting his serve back in the court is pretty tough,” said Paul, who withstood nine aces and broke Opelka’s serve two times. “The balls were moving pretty quick today. It felt quicker today than others. Maybe it’s just because I had Reilly serving to me.”

Paul has now compiled a 17-5 record on home soil since the beginning of 2024, including seven wins in Dallas. Competing in his first tournament as a Top 10 player, the World No. 9 has reached his 16th tour-level semi-final and his fourth on indoor hard courts.

Up next for Paul will be Canadian Denis Shapovalov. No. 2 seed Casper Ruud of Norway and Spaniard Jaume Munuar round out the final four in Texas.
