The first four players have reached the quarterfinals of the Tenerife Challenger 2 organized by MEF Tennis Events with the support of Turismo de Tenerife.
Javier Barranco Cosano delivered one of the biggest victories of his career by defeating No. 2 seed Emil Ruusuvuori in a three-set battle. The 26-year-old Spaniard, ranked World No. 257, overcame a second-set dip to close out a 7-5, 1-6, 6-3 win.

“It was a tough match, but I felt really good today,” Barranco Cosano said after the win. “I knew Emil would raise his level in the second set, but I stayed focused and positive in the third, and things went my way.”
Earlier this year, Barranco Cosano competed in the Australian Open qualifiers, an experience he believes has strengthened his mentality: “Playing a Grand Slam really helps on a mental level. Coming back to the Challenger Tour, I feel less nervous and more confident that I can win every match. Now, I just want to keep pushing.”
His quarterfinal opponent will be Benjamin Hassan, who took down Tenerife Challenger 1 finalist Alejandro Moro Canas 6-3, 1-6, 6-2. Hassan avenged his quarterfinal loss to Moro Canas from last week, showcasing his resilience and tactical adjustments.
Last week’s Tenerife Challenger champion Pablo Carreno Busta booked his spot in the quarterfinals after Frenchman Antoine Escoffier withdrew from their match. The former World No. 10 will now face Abdullah Shelbayh, who fought through another marathon battle, following up his tough first-round win over Vilius Gaubas with a 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-4 victory against Andres Andrade.
