The TennisBase Open in Oberhaching witnessed an interesting semifinal day on Saturday, as top seed Mats Rosenkranz and former champion Marvin Moeller booked their spots in the final of the ITF World Tennis Tour M15 event.
In the day’s first semifinal, Moeller (ATP No. 529) faced Hungary’s Peter Fajta (ATP No. 521) in front of an enthusiastic crowd. The match began with a dramatic opening game, as Moeller raced to a 40-0 lead but was ultimately denied by Fajta, who reeled off five consecutive points to hold serve.
Both players then settled into a tight battle, consistently holding their service games despite facing occasional break points. While Fajta relied on his powerful forehand, Möller displayed excellent counterpunching from both wings. At a crucial moment, the Hamburg native secured a perfectly timed break at 6-5 and then confidently served out the first set.
Riding the momentum, Moeller was unstoppable in the second set. Delivering a near-flawless performance, the 26-year-old did not drop a single game, closing out the match with an ace for a 7-5, 6-0 victory in just 70 minutes.
“The first set was very tight because we were both playing aggressively and at a high level,” said Moeller, who lifted the trophy at the TennisBase Oberhaching two years ago. “Winning that set was crucial for the rest of the match. After breaking early in the second set, my opponent’s level dropped slightly, while I stayed sharp. Sometimes, just a small edge can lead to a lopsided score like in the second set.”
In the second semifinal, top seed Rosenkranz (ATP No. 366) was set for a much-anticipated all-lefty showdown against former German Davis Cup player Cedrik-Marcel Stebe. However, the match ended with Stebe being forced to retire due to injury.
