PUNTA CANA/STARNBERG, March 17, 2025
Aleksandar Kovacevic extended his impressive season on Sunday, securing the biggest title of his career at the ATP Challenger Tour 175 event in Cap Cana, Dominican Republic.
The 26-year-old, who reached his maiden tour-level final in Montpellier last month, dominated Damir Dzumhur from Bosnia and Herzegovina with a swift 6-2, 6-3 victory in just 71 minutes at the Republica Dominicana Open, Copa Cap Cana Ciudad Destino.
Kovacevic sent down three aces and won 79 per cent of his first-service points. The US-American broke his rival four times to prevail after one hour and 11 minutes.

“The conditions here are very, very difficult to be ready for,” Kovacevic said. “In my quarter-final match against [Daniel] Altmaier, I was cramping at the end of the match and that could be the difference. If I cramped a little bit harder, I wouldn’t have been able to continue the match or I’d have had to retire probably.
“So today against Damir, you can tell that one of his biggest strengths is his conditioning and his fitness. He’s able to run all day. I wanted to be the best prepared I possibly could to be able to play a long match and I’m very happy with how I was able to finish in two sets. Playing in the hottest time of the day is not easy. He made me work, but I was very happy to finish in two sets and finish convincingly.”
By winning his sixth ATP Challenger Tour career title, World No. 94 Kovacevic earned $38,420 in prize money as well as 175 ATP Ranking points.
The inaugural Republica Dominicana Open, Copa Cap Cana offered a total prize pool of $250,000 and was held at the Raquet Village in Cap Cana, a luxurious resort and residential community located on the eastern coast of the Dominican Republic, near Punta Cana.

Visitors can enjoy championship golf at the renowned Punta Espada Golf Course, deep-sea fishing, water sports, and eco-adventures in the surrounding tropical landscape.
