It wasn’t easy, but Bolivian top seed Hugo Dellien relied on his experience to secure a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Frenchman Maxime Janvier in the first-round match of the opening day at the II Yucatan Open. The ATP Challenger Tour 75 tournament is being played on the clay courts of the Club Campestre de Yucatan.
Ranked 103rd in the world and a former No. 64 in 2022, Dellien did what was necessary to overcome Janvier, in a match played under pleasant weather conditions at the Lorenzo Molina Casares Stadium Court.
Dellien took a 3-2 lead in the second set, but Janvier managed to level the score. However, the South American, a familiar face to local fans, held his serve to regain the advantage and then broke his opponent’s serve to comfortably close out the match.
The first South American to win a main-draw match was Argentina’s Renzo Olivo, who battled through a grueling and emotional contest lasting two hours and 23 minutes to defeat Germany’s Max Wiskandt 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 on the stadium court. Both players struck one ace, but they also struggled with double faults—Olivo committed five, while Wiskandt made six.
In another intense match on the stadium court, US-American Garret Johns secured a 6-4, 6-4 win over Romania’s Sebastian Gima. Johns fired five aces compared to Gima’s two, while the Romanian struggled with five double faults, whereas the US-American only committed two.
Meanwhile, on Court Yucatan, Tyler Zink from the United States dominated in the second set to defeat Ukraine’s Vladyslav Orlov 6-4, 6-0 in one hour and 17 minutes. Zink posted strong serving numbers, winning 76 per cent of points on his first serve and 56 per cent on his second, while Orlov had lower success rates of 56 per cent and 41 per cent, respectively.
