MUNICH, March 19, 2025
The BMW Open is getting ready for this year’s tournament, its first edition since upgrading to an ATP 500 event. From April 12 to April 20, the facility of the MTTC Iphitos in Munich will transform into one of the international tour’s premier hotspots, welcoming the world’s best players to the Bavarian capital over nine days. On Tuesday, the player field and the new setup of the venue were unveiled at the BMW Park in Munich, featuring a brand-new temporary Center Court with a seating capacity of 6,500, as well as enhanced public catering, entertainment, and VIP areas.
“Our tournament and the Iphitos venue will reach a new level in many ways this year – whether for longtime fans, new visitors, or our players,” said Fabian Tross, board member of the MTTC Iphitos, the tournament’s license holder and host.
“This development would not have been possible without the incredible teamwork between the club, our strong partners, our tournament director, and many dedicated contributors. It’s a transformation we eagerly look forward to,” added Christian Okon, Managing Director of event organizer MMP Event.
“We are extremely proud of the BMW Open, our longest-standing and most traditional sports partnership at BMW Group since 1987,” said Christian Ach, Head of BMW Germany. “This clearly demonstrates BMW’s commitment to continuously evolving our sports engagements in collaboration with our partners. With the BMW Open by Bitpanda making its ATP 500 debut, we have reached another significant milestone. We look forward to offering visitors an outstanding tournament experience in every way.”
The BMW Open will become the BMW Open by Bitpanda
This year’s tournament experience is being taken to the next level with a strong new partnership. Europe’s leading broker for stocks, crypto, indices, ETFs and precious metals, Bitpanda, is now the Presenting Partner of the BMW Open by Bitpanda. The company was founded in 2014 in Vienna, Austria with the aim of making investing accessible for everyone. Bitpanda has also established a strong presence in sports, particularly in tennis, with ambassadors such as Alexander Zverev, Stan Wawrinka, and Dominic Thiem representing Europe’s largest and most secure crypto broker.
Christoph Nestelberger, Head of Germany at Bitpanda, commented on the partnership: “Bitpanda and tennis share the same DNA. The sport demands absolute focus, endurance, and the determination to achieve peak performance – values that are also essential for Bitpanda. Discipline and strategic intelligence are crucial both on the court and in trading. The BMW Open by Bitpanda in Munich represents tradition, continuous development, and innovation. We are excited to be part of this year’s ATP 500 premiere in Munich and to offer fans a truly unique experience.”
Player line-up unveiled
At the home of FC Bayern Basketball team, the tournament director, title partner, and event organizers presented the player line-up for the 2025 BMW Open by Bitpanda. With World No. 2 Alexander Zverev and World No. 4 Taylor Fritz having already confirmed their participation, more top stars have now joined the field.
With the strongest cut-off in tournament history at World No. 52, tennis fans can look forward to an exciting field of elite players.
Newcomers and returning stars
For the first time in Munich, US-American rising star Ben Shelton will take to the courts. The 22-year-old World No. 14 made headlines at the Australian Open by reaching the semi-finals and is currently sitting on sixth position in the Race to the ATP Finals in Turin.
Returning to Munich is World No. 19 Felix Auger-Aliassime. The 24-year-old Canadian, who reached the quarterfinals of last year’s BMW Open by Bitpanda, has already clinched two titles this year in Adelaide, Australia and Montpellier, France.
World No. 20 Ugo Humbert will also be part of the tournament. The Frenchman has captured seven titles on the ATP Tour, including two ATP 500 trophies in Dubai and Halle. Also making his Munich debut is World No. 22 Hubert Hurkacz from Poland, a two-time Masters 1000 champion, who will be looking to add another title to his collection.
Tennis fans can also look forward to Denis Shapovalov, known for his aggressive playing style. The 25-year-old Canadian won the ATP 500 event in Dallas earlier this year and currently is currently ranked World No. 28.
Two additional Top 30 players have also confirmed their participation: World No. 24 Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina and 27th-ranked Czech Jiri Lehecka.
A familiar face making his return is Matteo Berrettini. After a long injury break, the World No. 30 from Italy made a strong comeback by winning three titles in 2023 and is steadily climbing up the rankings. Munich is a special place for him, as he reached the final here in 2019 when he finished runner-up to Cristian Garin of Chile.
Spectators will also be excited to welcome World No. 46 Gael Monfils back to Munich. The charismatic Frenchman, known for his entertaining style of play, is always a dangerous opponent when in top form.
Defending champion Jan-Lennard Struff will also return to the MTTC Iphitos. The 34-year-old German claimed his maiden ATP Tour title in Munich last year and will be looking to successfully defend his crown – and once again drive off with the BMW winner’s car.
Justin Engel receives wild card
The first wild card into the main draw of the BMW Open by Bitpanda has been awarded to German rising star Justin Engel. The 17-year-old Nuremberg native made history at the Almaty Open last year when he became the first player born in 2007 or later to record an ATP Tour match win.
“We are thrilled that the BMW Open by Bitpanda 2025 will not only feature world-class players and exciting young talents but also a number of athletes in top form this season. Three of the current Top 6 in the Race to Turin will be competing in Munich,” said tournament director Patrik Kühnen.
The upgrade provides players with the opportunity to earn more ATP ranking points at the BMW Open by Bitpanda and will offer €2,747,360 in prize money.
Last chance for tickets
The overwhelming demand for tickets speaks for itself. Most of the tickets for the main-draw action are already sold out, with only a few remaining for selected days. However, those who act quickly and keep an eye out may still have a chance to secure the last available tickets. A limited number of tickets are also still available for the qualifying weekend.
The opening weekend will also feature an exciting new highlight for tennis and event fans. Due to high demand for VIP tickets, the organizers have decided to open the VIP area during the traditionally sun-soaked qualifying days.
The Käfer’s Brunch at the Golden Racket Club offers visitors an exclusive start to the tournament in a unique atmosphere, featuring a first-class brunch and the opportunity to explore the new venue and VIP areas before anyone else – all while enjoying world-class tennis action.
The VIP ticket package includes access to the Käfer’s Brunch, a reserved seat in the Business Seat Tribune, and parking directly at the event venue.
