It’s home game on for this year’s WTA 500 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. That’s because the tour’s annual kickoff to the European spring clay season, which takes place from April 12-21 inside Porsche Arena, will have a distinct German presence among the 28 players who will be featured in the singles main draw.

On Thursday, tournament organizers announced that four top German players – Eva Lys, Laura Siegemund, Tatjana Maria and Jule Niemeier – have been awarded wild cards.

“As a tournament in Germany, we naturally want to present the best German players,” said Operating Tournament Director Anke Huber in a statement. “Especially as they will be playing for Germany in the Billie Jean King Cup on the opening weekend of the tournament.”

Eight of the Top 10 players in the world, including World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus and World No. 2 Iga Swiatek of Poland, are entered in this year’s Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. Awaiting the winner of the singles final on Monday, April 21, is a Porsche Macau Turbo in Papaya Metalic as the main prize.

Lys, ranked No. 76, is currently Germany’s top-ranked player. The 23-year-old, who is based in Hamburg, started her 2025 season by advancing to the fourth round of the Australian Open as a lucky loser. In Stuttgart, she made it into the main draw for the first time in 2022 and reached the second round before losing to eventual champion Iga Swiatek.

The 81st-ranked Siegemund, who won the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix title in 2017, is one of four German titlists. The 37-year-old native of Filderstadt has been very successful in doubles and has won 16 WTA titles. In 2022, she won the US Open women’s doubles title with Vera Zvonareva and the mixed doubles with Mate Pavic. Siegemund also won the French Open mixed doubles title with Edouard Roger-Vasselin in 2024.

The 37-year-old Maria, ranked 86th, reached the Wimbledon semifinals in 2022. The native of Bad Saulgau is a three-time WTA titlist – at Mallorca in 2018 and at Bogota in 2022 and 2023.

The 25-year-old Niemeier from Dortmund, ranked 114th, was a Wimbledon quarterfinalist in 2022 and the same year reached the round of 16 at the US Open.

Sport and fun in the Porsche Arena under the motto “Kick & Serve: VfB Stuttgart meets Porsche Tennis,” an entertaining mixed doubles exhibition event will mark the highlight on the first day of main draw matches on Centre Court at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, April 14. The three competing pairings each consist of a footballer and a tennis player. In action from the Porsche partner club VfB Stuttgart will be three former players – Cacau, Zdravco Kuzmanovic and Fernando Meira. At their sides will be tennis players Andrea Petkovic, Eva Lys and Laura Siegemund. Two champions tie-breaks will be followed by two sets football tennis – both as a round robins.
