POZNAN/STARNBERG, April 1, 2025

Only 75 days remain until the start of the ATP Challenger event, the Enea Poznan Open. To celebrate the tournament’s 30th edition, organizers have released a special Top 30 list of tennis players who have competed in Poznan and reached the highest ATP rankings. The list is impressive, and tournament founder Wojciech Fibak is certain: “This is a tournament of stars.”

A Legacy of Champions

The Poznan Open Challenger has seen Grand Slam winners, Olympic champions, and even former ATP No. 1 players. Over the past 30 years, fans at Olimpia Tennis Park have witnessed top-tier talent, including Marat Safin, Yevgeny Kafelnikov, and Juan Carlos Ferrero, all of whom later became world No. 1.

It’s difficult to name all the players who ranked in the Top 10 or 20 and played in Poznan,” says Fibak. “This was the first tournament in Poland where players could earn ATP ranking points, and that’s crucial for any professional. I’m proud to have created an event that is now a recognized and respected ATP Challenger.”

Stars Who Shined in Poznan

Reflecting on the event’s past, Fibak highlights some of its biggest names: Kafelnikov, Juan Martin del Potro, Tommy Robredo, David Goffin, Sebastien Grosjean, and Marc Rosset. He also recalls Andrea Gaudenzi, the 1993 Poznan champion who is now the President of the ATP. “That final was unforgettable, and he later broke into the Top 20.”

One memory stands out in particular: Marat Safin’s surprising exit. “He didn’t win in Poznan because Michał Chmela eliminated him—it was a huge upset at the time!” Fibak also emphasizes two key aspects that make the tournament special:

  1. The passionate Poznan crowd – “The stands are packed not just for the final, but from the very first day. Last year, they supported Maks Kaśnikowski from start to finish, and he went on to win.”

  2. A strong presence of sports and business figures – “The tournament has welcomed legends such as Ryszard Szurkowski, Andrzej Grubba, Zbigniew Boniek, and Mariusz Czerkawski.”

A Star-Studded Top 30

The Top 30 list prepared for the 30th edition includes 17 players who reached the ATP Top 10, including:

  • Casper Ruud (currently No. 6)

  • Gilles Simon, Alberto Berasategui, Nicolas Massu, Pablo Carreño Busta, Felix Mantilla, Arnaud Clément, Lucas Pouille

  • Hubert Hurkacz, the 2018 Poznan Open champion and Poland’s current top player
