MONZA/STARNBERG, April 10, 2025
In the world of tennis, it often takes just one breakthrough to go from a promising talent to a rising star. That’s exactly what Jacopo Vasami experienced at the Atkinsons Monza Open. The 17-year-old from Rome came into the tournament aiming to win his first ATP Challenger Tour match, and just two days later, he found himself in the quarterfinals. On Thursday, he delivered a stunning performance to defeat Spain’s Martin Landaluce, the tournament’s seventh seed and World No. 154, with a commanding 6-4, 6-4 victory.

“I’m really happy with how I handled the match,” said Vasami. “I stayed focused the whole time. My serve helped me a lot, and the crowd gave me great support. The Central Court was packed, and I could really feel the energy. That made a big difference today, helping me beat one of the best young players in the world. It gives me the confidence to believe I can achieve great things.”
His fantastic Thursday didn’t end there. Vasami also advanced to the doubles semifinals alongside Filippo Romano, defeating the top-50 duo of Alexander Erler and Constantin Frantzen.
In singles, Vasami now prepares for a quarterfinal clash against Ukrainian Vitaliy Sachko, who came back from a set down to eliminate Matteo Gigante 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Vasami is all too familiar with Sachko, having lost to him just last week in Barletta — a match in which the Italian held match point. Now, he’ll get a shot at immediate revenge, with a semifinal spot on the line.
Elsewhere, Czech Dalibor Svrcina — winner of two ATP Challenger Tour titles already this year, including one last week in Barletta — cruised past Italy’s Enrico Dalla Valle 6-2, 6-1 to book his place in the last eight. He’ll face Austria’s Filip Misolic, who defeated fourth-seeded Federico Coria in a rollercoaster 6-0, 4-6, 6-0 encounter.
