Brazilian Felipe Meligeni Alves continued his outstanding run of form by capturing his second ATP Challenger Tour title in just four weeks, winning the Mexico City Open on Sunday at the Estadio Rafael ‘Pelón’ Osuna of the Centro Deportivo Chapultepec.

The 27-year-old dominated the singles final, defeating Frenchman Luka Pavlovic 6-3, 6-3 to add his name to the tournament’s list of champions. With the win, Meligeni becomes the first Brazilian to lift the singles trophy in the history of the Mexico City Open.

“Yes, I’m very happy. Two titles in four weeks—this has never happened to me before,” said Meligeni Alves after his triumph. “I’m so grateful to everyone who came out to support me. It was beautiful, the atmosphere was amazing. Winning such a big and special tournament here means a lot to me—I’m really, really happy.”

Meligeni highlighted that his recent results are the result of hard work and perseverance.
“This shows that what we’ve been doing is working. There were a lot of big servers this week, guys who play very well in these conditions, but I stayed confident. I have to play again on Tuesday in San Luis Potosí, but I’ll try to ride this momentum and do my best. I’m close to achieving a very important goal, so I’ll keep fighting—there’s a lot of good stuff ahead.”

On his way to the title, Meligeni defeated Beibit Zhukayev from Kazakhstan in the opening round, followed by victories over Darwin Blanc of the United States, US-American Alfredo Pérez in the quarterfinals, and Marc-Andrea Huesler ofSwitzerland in the semis, before his final win over Pavlovic.

“Luka is a great player, a great server especially,” said Meligeni Alves. “But I stayed mentally strong throughout. I knew I would get chances and that he’d serve well, but I took advantage of the opportunities when they came.”

Meligeni now sets his sights on closing out his successful Mexican swing at the Challenger in San Luis Potosí, before heading to Europe to continue the clay-court season with an eye on Roland Garros.

Best Tournament on the ATP Challenger Tour

During the week, the Mexico City Open was officially recognized as the Best Tournament on the ATP Challenger Tour in 2024—a prestigious honor awarded based on the votes and evaluations of players who competed in over 200 Challenger tournaments across 48 countries worldwide last year.

“We couldn’t be happier or more grateful,” said Jorge Nicolín, Director of the Centro Deportivo Chapultepec, who highlighted the tournament’s continuous growth. In 2025, the Mexico City Open celebrated its fourth edition.

“Our special thanks go to the ATP and the Challenger Tour team for recognizing the work being done here in Mexico—with passion, commitment, and a whole lot of heart,” Nicolín added.
