MILAN, June 25, 2016
Marco Cecchinato and Laslo Djere will compete in Sunday’s final of the €42,500 Aspria Tennis Cup in Milan. Cecchinato defeated the tournament’s number four Carlos Berlocq 6-4, 6-2. The 23-year-old Italian sent down three aces, winning 60% of his first service points. He capitalized on six of his 10 break point opportunities to advance in one hour and 36 minutes.
“I’m really pleased. I served well and managed to gain a break in the sixth game of the second set. Carlos is always a dangerous player, very present on court. I needed to play a great match to beat him. That’s what I did,” Cecchinato was pleased with his performance.
Djere knocked out eighth seed Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-2, 3-6, 7-5. The 21-year-old from Serbia won eight of his 14 break points and 101 of the 200 total points played to prevail in two hours and 34 minutes.
Djere is vying for his maiden title on the ATP Challenger Tour, facing Cecchinato for the first time. The world number 140 from Sicily could capture his third Challenger career title, his first since lifting the trophy in Turin last year.
Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela and Max Schnur claimed the doubles title, winning 1-6, 7-6, 10-5 over Alessandro Motti and Hsien-Ying Peng. The encounter lasted one hour and 39 minutes.
