KITZBÜHEL, June 28, 2016
It was big news for the organizers of the Generali Open when Dominic Thiem announced in April that he is going to play his home tournament in Kitzbühel this season. The ATP 250 event is held from 17 to 23 July 2016, a week fully packed with three more tournaments in Washington, Gstaad and Umag taking place the same time. Thiem is even the defending champion at the Swiss Open as well as the Konzum Croatia Open.
The world numer seven, however, decided to appear in Kitzbühel in order to lift his first trophy in front of his home crowd. Thiem will start his title bid on Wednesday, July 20.
“It is always something special to play at home. My friends and family will be here to support me. The atmosphere on centre court last year was extraordinary. I hope that it will be the same this year,” Thiem is looking forward to return to the Kitzbühel Alps.
“We will give everything that the tournament will remain unforgettable for Dominic as well as for the fans. Centre court should be rocked,” tournament director Alexander Antonitsch added.
Thiem is likely to be the tournament’s top-seed and lone top 10-player.
There will also be a couple of side events taking place at the venue the day when Thiem steps into action. Fans can enjoy live music as well as special drink offers all over the grounds.
Tickets are still available via the official website.
