Martin Downs Quinzi To Reach Todi Quarterfinal

The four top seeds of the €42,500 Internazionali Di Tennis Dell’Umbria advanced to the quarterfinals in Todi. The tournament’s number one Andrej Martin battled past Italian youngster and former Wimbledon juniors champion Gianluigi Quinzi, winning 7-5, 2-6, 6-1.

The world number 105 from Sloavakia broke his opponent’s serve six times to prevail in two hours and two minutes. Martin will next face Serbian qualifier Miljan Zekic, who beat Dmitry Popko 6-2, 6-4.

Second favourite Marco Cecchinato, who captured his first Challenger title of the season in Milan two weeks ago, dismissed Indian qualifier Ramkumar Ramanathan 7-6, 6-4. The 23-year-old Italian won 77% of his first service points and capitalized on both of his two break point chances to seal victory in one hour and 35 minutes. Cecchinato will take on compatriot Alessandro Giannessi in the stage of the final eight. The fifth seed ralllied from a set down against Arthur de Greef 4-6, 6-0, 6-1.

The tournament’s number three Marco Trugelliti edged past Daniil Medvedev 6-2, 7-5 to take on sixth seed Luca Vanni in the quarterfinal. The 31-year-old Italian fought back to overcome Matteo Donati 0-6, 7-5, 6-4 in two hours and 16 minutes.

Fourth seed Marton Fucsovics overcame Lorenzo Sonego 6-7, 6-4, 6-1 in two hours and 38 minutes to play Italian wild card Stefano Napolitano next, who took out Blaz Rola with a 6-3, 6-3 win.
