Marco Cecchinato and Marco Trungelliti are the only two seeded players, who have made their way into the semi-finals of the €42,500 Internazionali Di Tennis Dell’Umbria in Todi.
The tournament’s number two from Italy emerged victorious from the all-Italian-battle with Alessandro Gianessi, winning 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. Cecchinato, who lifted the ATP Challenger trophy in Milan two weeks ago, won 70% of his first service point and converted two of his four break point chances to prevail in one hour and 59 minutes.
The Sicliy native will next play compatriot Stefano Napolitano. The 21-year-old wild card entry overcame fourth favourite Marton Fucsovics 6-1, 5-7, 6-4. Napolitano sent down four aces, winning 54% of the total points to advance in two hours and 31 minutes.
Third seed Trungelliti ousted the tournament’s number six Luca Vanni, winning 6-3, 7-6 to take on Miljan Zekic. The Serbian qualifier knocked out top-seed Andrej Martin 6-3, 7-5. Zekic, world number 241, hit seven aces and broke his opponent’s serve three times to seal victory in one hour and 59 minutes.
