The Danube Upper Austria Open powered by SKE will celebrate a small milestone in 2026, as the ATP Challenger tournament returns for its fifth edition from April 26 to May 3 at the Danubis Tennis Center in Mauthausen.

Since its debut in 2022, the tournament has grown rapidly, hosting a total of 256 singles and doubles matches and crowning singles champions from four different nations. Over the years, it has welcomed numerous international top players and established itself as a firm fixture on both the Austrian and international tennis calendar.

“The Mauthausen venue, together with the Danubis Academy, has developed into an important hub for talent development,” said Upper Austria’s regional councillor for economic affairs and sport, Markus Achleitner. “It is all the more fitting that this facility also hosts an international tournament. For the fifth consecutive year, Upper Austria features top-level international tennis events for both men and women on the ATP and WTA circuits—and we are very proud of that.”

Since its inaugural edition, the tournament has built an impressive reputation. The list of champions includes Jurij Rodionov, Hamad Medjedovic, Lucas Pouille, and most recently Cristian Garin—each representing a different country.

Beyond its winners, the event has also attracted former Top 10 players, even former Top 3 stars, and Grand Slam champions, all competing on the center court in Mauthausen. The combination of high-level international competition, promising local talents, and a unique tournament atmosphere continues to draw strong interest from fans year after year.

“Our goal from the beginning was to establish a Challenger tournament at an international top level and to anchor it sustainably here in Upper Austria,” said tournament director Florian Leitgeb of Champ Events GmbH. “Now that we are entering our fifth edition and have built a strong international reputation, it shows that the hard work of recent years has paid off.”

Leitgeb also highlighted the tournament’s innovation and development: “We have created an event in Mauthausen almost from scratch that is not only recognized internationally but has also earned a strong standing on the Challenger Tour. With innovations such as electronic line calling, introduced last year, we have taken important technological steps and positioned ourselves as pioneers. We have also made significant progress in terms of infrastructure.”

A key feature of the tournament, according to Leitgeb, is the close connection between players and fans: “For this anniversary edition, we want to offer spectators another week full of high-quality matches and special tennis moments. In Mauthausen, fans are right up close—on and off the court. This accessibility is what makes the atmosphere here so unique. While we cannot yet reveal the big names, I can promise that the 2026 lineup will once again be very strong.”
