MORELIA/STARNBERG, March 28, 2026
The stage is set for the grand finale of the Morelia Open ATP Challenger 125 hard-court event. After an intense week of competition at the Club Tres Marias, the tournament has determined its two finalists: Croatia’s Borna Gojo and Argentina’s Juan Pablo Ficovich, who will face off this Saturday for the title in the capital of Michoacan and a prize purse of $225,000 USD.
Friday’s semifinal action confirmed why both players arrived as strong contenders. Gojo, 28, secured his place in the final with a display of mental strength, defeating Colombia’s Nicolas Mejia 6–4, 7–6(5) in one hour and 45 minutes. His composure in the tie-break proved decisive, allowing him to close out the match in straight sets and avoid a third. Ficovich, 29, had to work harder for his spot, coming from behind to defeat France’s Luka Pavlovic 6–1, 3–6, 6–3 in one hour and 34 minutes. The Argentine showed resilience and determination, overcoming a mid-match dip to secure victory.

The final presents a compelling contrast in styles, pitting a player highly adapted to hard courts against a clay-court specialist who has found his rhythm on the faster surface in Morelia. Gojo enters his eighth final at this level with an impressive record on hard courts, having won all three of his previous Challenger titles on this surface in Ortisei (2022), Sioux Falls (2024), and Metepec (2026). He is also aiming for his second title in Mexico in less than two months, having triumphed in Metepec in February, which further highlights his strong adaptation to the country’s altitude and conditions.
For Ficovich, the final represents a significant personal and professional milestone. All three of his previous titles—Sao Paulo (2021), Bogota (2022), and Cali (2024) – were won on clay courts. A victory in Morelia would mark his first professional title on hard courts and confirm his tactical evolution, capping one of the most important weeks of his career, during which he has proven his game can be just as effective away from clay.
