Broady Claims Miyazaki Challenger Trophy

Liam Broady captured the title of the inaugural Koyushokucho Miyazaki Challenger. The unseeded Briton outlasted his compatriot and No. 7 seed Harry Wendelken 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 in Sunday’s singles final.

Broady capitalized on six of his eight break-point chances to seal victory in two hours and 14 minutes.

The 32-year-old Englishman battled his way into the championship match with wins in the top half of the draw over fifth-seeded Japanese Kaichi Uchida, Hayato Matsuoka of Japan, US-American Andre Ilagan and Blake Ellis of Australia.

Broady lifted his third ATP Challenger Tour career trophy, his first since Vilnius, Lithuania in 2023. The world No. 278 pocketed $9,500 in prize money as well as 50 ATP Ranking points.

The first edition of the Koyushokucho Miyazaki Challenger offered a total prize pool of $63,000 and was held at the Hinata Tennis Park Miyazaki.

Miyazaki is a coastal city on the southeastern side of the island of Kyushu. Known for its warm climate, palm-lined streets, and beautiful beaches, it is one of Japan’s most relaxed destinations. Visitors often come to enjoy surfing, local cuisine, and famous sites such as Aoshima Shrine and Udo Shrine, both set against dramatic coastal scenery.
