BARCELONA/STARNBERG, April 19, 2026
Arthur Fils showed composure under pressure to overcome a late fightback from Andrey Rublev and claim the title at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell on Sunday. The Frenchman sealed a 6-2, 7-6(2) victory in a gripping championship match.
Fils appeared on course for a straightforward win, racing to a 5-2 lead in the second set and later stepping up to serve for the title at 5-3. But Rublev responded with determination, capitalizing on a double fault to break back for 5-4. Moments later, Fils held three championship points on the Russian’s serve, only for Rublev to surge through five consecutive points and level the set at 5-5.
The momentum briefly swung in Rublev’s favor when he broke again to edge ahead 6-5. Yet Fils refused to let the match slip away, immediately breaking back to force a tie-break. There, the 20-year-old reasserted his authority, reeling off seven straight points to close out the match and secure the biggest title of his career.

“It was terrible,” Fils said about the end of the match. “The end of the second set was just about the mental [pressure]. The whole match was a bit tough because I was a bit tight. I played well for a set and a half, but when I had to close, I started to think a little. But I’m very happy with the way I played the tie-break.”
By winning his fourth ATP Tour crown, his first since 2024, Fils earned €546,400 in prize money as well as 500 ATP Ranking points.
