The Sardegna Open is set to come alive as main draw action begins on Tuesday at the Tennis Club Cagliari, following an opening day dedicated to qualifying matches. The ATP Challenger 175 event, organized by the Italian Tennis Federation, welcomes its first big names to the clay courts, promising an exciting day of high-level tennis.
The schedule features five main draw matches, starting with an intriguing clash between Stefano Travaglia and Jesper de Jong. Shortly after, all eyes will turn to Matteo Berrettini, the tournament’s main attraction, who arrives in Sardinia alongside his brother Jacopo.
The former world No. 10, a 10-time ATP title winner and finalist at Wimbledon Championships in 2021, will open his campaign against US-American Patrick Kypson, currently ranked No. 90 in the world. It marks a challenging start for Berrettini, who is looking to regain form during a difficult phase in his career.
“I first came to this club when I was playing under-12 tournaments,” Berrettini said ahead of the event. “It’s always a pleasure to return. I’m here to find my best tennis again, physically and mentally, and to build momentum for the coming months. Tournaments like this can really give you the push to achieve big things.”

Following Berrettini, another former Top 10 player, Hubert Hurkacz, will take to Centre Court. The Polish star, a two-time ATP Masters 1000 champion in Miami and Shanghai, continues his comeback after a serious knee injury that sidelined him for much of 2025. Now working with coach Gilles Cervara, Hurkacz will face Zachary Svajda as he looks to rebuild his ranking.
The day’s program concludes with a matchup between Cristian Garin and Moez Echargui, rounding off a strong opening day that signals the start of an exciting week in Cagliari.
