STUTTGART, July 26, 2016
More than 58,000 people visited this year’s edition of the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart and witnessed Dominic Thiem claiming his first ATP World Tour title on grass. The Austrian youngster had defeated Roger Federer in the semis before he eventually overcame Philipp Kohlschreiber in the final.
“The MercedesCup was the first tournament after a longer break for me. I was not that pleased with the result but I enjoyed the week in Stuttgart and I am looking forward to coming back next year. The goal is to claim the title,” told Federer, who will return to the venue of the Tennis Club Weissenhof in 2017.
“We are very pleased that Roger gained some positive impressions from the tournament. We also received a general positive feedback from the players as well as from the ATP. This means a huge motivation for our entire team. We would like to present an additional top 10 player next year, as well as about five to six players from the top 20,” tournament director Edwin Weindorfer stated.
Next year’s edition is going to take place from 10 to 18 June 2017. Ticket pre-sale starts this Tuesday.
