CERVIA/STARNBERG, May 23, 2026
Spain’s Max Alcala Gurri captured the biggest title of his career by winning the inaugural edition of the CAME Cup – Città di Cervia, the ATP Challenger 50 event played on the clay courts of the Circolo Polisportiva 2000 Tennis in Cervia, Italy.
The 23-year-old from Barcelona completed a dream week by fighting back to defeat Belgium’s Buvaysar Gadamauri 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 in one hour and 41 minutes, securing his first ATP Challenger title in what was also his first final at this level.
Alcala Gurri, ranked No. 350 in the world entering the tournament, had already impressed throughout the week with victories over Italy’s Juan Martin Manzano in the quarter-finals and top seed Andrea Guerrieri in the semi-finals. After winning an ITF World Tennis Tour title on home soil in Castelldefels three weeks ago and reaching another final in Reus earlier this season, the Spaniard confirmed his excellent form with a dominant comeback performance in Cervia.
Gadamauri, who had saved four match points against Tommaso Compagnucci in a dramatic semi-final, started the championship match strongly. The Belgian immediately broke serve and controlled the opening set with aggressive tennis, racing to a 6-2 lead after securing a second break in the seventh game.
From that point on, however, the momentum completely shifted. Alcala Gurri dramatically reduced his unforced errors and began dictating rallies with heavy topspin and consistency from the baseline. Benefiting as well from a visible physical drop from the Belgian sixth seed, the Spaniard reeled off five consecutive games from 1-1 in the second set to force a decider.
The run continued into the third set as Alcala Gurri surged ahead 3-0. Gadamauri briefly responded by recovering one of the breaks and creating four chances to close the gap to 2-3, but he was unable to capitalize. Running low on energy, the Belgian eventually surrendered control as the Spaniard closed out the victory before collapsing onto the clay in celebration.

“It has been an incredible week that will always stay in my heart,” an emotional Alcala Gurri said during the trophy ceremony. “Thank you to everyone who helped make this tournament possible. Cervia will always remain special to me.”
The title will propel the Spaniard to a new career-high ranking of No. 277 in the ATP Rankings, a jump of 73 positions.
Gadamauri, despite the disappointment of the final, will also reach a career-best ranking of No. 259 after his run to the title match.
Forti/Romano triumph in doubles
Italy still had reason to celebrate thanks to Francesco Forti and Filippo Romano, who captured the doubles title with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over second seeds Santiago Rodriguez Taverna and David Vega Hernandez.
“It’s always special to play in front of family and friends,” said Forti, who comes from nearby Cesenatico. “And Filippo always seems to play great tennis whenever he comes to Romagna. I’m really happy we could win this title together.”
Romano added: “We still had some disappointment from our loss in Rome, and at the start of the week we told ourselves this could be our chance for redemption. I’m really happy we made it happen and won our first title together after reaching the final in Cesenatico earlier this year.”
