PERUGIA/STARNBERG, June 5, 2026
Andrea Pellegrino continued his impressive run at the Internazionali di Tennis Città di Perugia | G.I.Ma. Tennis Cup, booking his place in the quarterfinals with a hard-fought 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory over Spain’s Roberto Carballes Baena.
The sixth seed and defending champion once again showed his resilience on Centre Court, overcoming a slow start to claim his seventh consecutive match win in Perugia across the 2025 and 2026 editions of the ATP Challenger 125 tournament organized by MEF Tennis Events.
“I faced another very difficult opponent and had to raise my level to beat him,” Pellegrino said after the match. “I didn’t start particularly well, but gradually I began to feel better on court.”
The Italian will now face fellow countryman Pierluigi Basile in an all-Italian quarter-final. Basile, who received a wild card into the main draw, produced an impressive performance to defeat qualifier Francesco Forti 6-1, 6-3.
“Pierluigi is proving what a great player he is,” Pellegrino added. “I watched part of his match today and was really impressed. I think it will be an entertaining contest.”
Meanwhile, local hopes suffered a setback as Luca Nardi was eliminated by Switzerland’s Remy Bertola. After dropping the opening set, Nardi fought back to level the match before Bertola regained control to secure a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory and a place in the last eight. The Swiss will next face fourth seed Henrique Rocha, who defeated former world No. 16 Dusan Lajovic 6-4, 7-5.
